I want to be clear: this isn’t a bit. I really have no memory - well, no - not none exactly. Most of my youth is gone, and much of my twenties with it. Who knows where it went. One doctor blames repeated concussions. Another suspects PTSD. I don’t know which explanation is right and that uncertainty has become the work.
Memory Fog is an attempt to reconstruct a life from incomplete evidence: roaming through unfamiliar places in a near-constant state of déjà vu; hoarding photographs, documents, anecdotes, and research in the hope that obsessive accumulation might eventually reveal a pattern. As the CIA maxim goes, "Pay attention to everything interesting because everything is connected."

"The sense of faith in the work is immense. That there will be, or won’t be, something there next time to look at."
"We are made to see the world and people from the perspective of someone who has forgotten their own life. It makes this world and these people look as if they, too, have forgotten something crucial, but what exactly is left unsaid."
“This place is like somebody’s memory of a town, and the memory is fading.”
